With her latest hit ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ and ‘Queen’ not far behind, she has proven that an actress can carry an entire film on her shoulders all the way to the box office. Here are nine times Kangana stole our hearts and proved she is a real hero in Bollywood.
1. She has had humble beginnings. No starry godfathers, no filmy ancestry. She is a self-made woman. She hails from a middle class family from a small town in Himachal Pradesh. But that didn’t deter her from dreaming big and entering the big bad world of Bollywood which is known to crush many a dream.

2. She refused help from her father, even when she was struggling in Bollywood and didn't have enough money to pay for house rent. In an industry where star fathers chart out careers for their stars kids and influence many a director to launch their child, it is truly inspiring to see a young woman refuse monetary help from her own father.

3. She rejected an offer to do a fairness cream ad because she did not support the obsession with fairness in India. While other actors sell themselves to endorse anything from cold drinks to pan masala and earn crores in return, Kangana’s open protest against fair-skin obsession deserves all the applause in the world. Her own sister Rangoli is dusky and an acid attack survivor, and Kangana believed she’d betray her sister if she were to endorse that beauty was just skin-deep.

4. She has achieved the status of an A-list celebrity without having worked with any of the Khans. The actress has carved a niche for herself in the industry solely on the basis of her acting talent. She has proven her acting mettle in movies like ‘Gangster’, 'Life In A Metro', ‘Fashion’ for which she won a national award. The recent blockbuster ‘Queen’, which brought her another national award, established Kangana as a star. Her portrayal of plain Jane Rani was so convincing that it was difficult to believe it was the same actress who had played a badass supermodel in 'Fashion'.

5. She overcame her weaknesses and turned them into her strengths. For a long time her accent was mocked. But that didn’t bog her down. Instead, she worked hard on it, and later talked about it in fluent English in an interview with Anupama Chopra. 6. She supported her sister Rangoli when the latter became victim to an acid attack. Though Kangana herself was struggling in Bollywood at that time, she did not back out from extending all the help she could to her sister. In an interview with Bombay Times, she said she took to cutting ribbons to support her sister’s treatment.

7. She is brutally honest and speaks her heart out. In an industry that is full of people faking everything, from accents to feelings, Kangana has a reputation of calling a spade a spade. The actress doesn’t believe in being unnecessarily diplomatic to sound cool or avoid embarrassment.

8. She has not had it easy. Despite having done good work, she did not find acceptance in the industry too soon. Even after the success of ‘Gangster’, Kangana was out of work for two years. She was treated as an outsider in the industry. But she held her ground. She was on the verge of leaving the film industry for good, when she decided to give it one more try. And the rest is history. 9. She doesn’t try to impress people. The actress is comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t feel the need to constantly please people. She has openly admitted that she doesn’t believe in awards, which is why the 28-year-old doesn’t attend award shows.
